Japanese forest grass is one of my all time favorite grasses! This variety is variegated with a golden hue. It is a slow-growing, well-behaved, deciduous grass that arches more horizontally than upright. It works well along pathways, in a mass-planting, or mixed with other perennials toward the front of the border. It prefers well-drained soil and will do well in part to full shade. Matures at about 1-2' tall by 3' wide. It will die back in winter and only needs to be slightly cleaned up in spring. A must have! Photo Courtesy of Sublime Gardens

A dense, compact, evergreen, mounding fern that matures at about 16″. Combine this unique fern with other shade-loving perennials at the front of a shady border. The leaf fronds will emerge lime green, and darken as they mature. Plant in neutral to acidic soil, rich in organic matter. Ideal for a mass planting, rock garden, container, or in a woodlands garden.

This is one of my all time favorite spring-blooming deciduous shrubs! White flowers (that resemble a lace-cap hydrangea) bloom along the top of the branches in twos, typically in mid-May, followed by red-black fruit. Leaves turn to a deep red in fall. Branching is very horizontal and is wider than tall; about 8' x10' in my garden. Prune to thin and accentuate its horizontal branching habit as needed or after flowering in spring.
