One of my favorite early spring-blooming deciduous shrubs! Creamy-white bottlebrush-like flowers that bloom on bare wood, followed by blue-green leaves. Leaves turn shades of yellow, orange, and deep red in fall. Matures at about 2-3' tall and wide. Plant in full to part sun in well-drained soil. Photo Courtesy of Sublime Gardens

This plant has it all! Beautiful flowers in late summer, interesting bark, and stunning foliage which turns mahogany red in fall. Semi-evergreen. Matures at amount 6-8' tall and wide in my garden. Plant in full to part sun with adequate moisture until established. Prune minimally, removing spent flowers and thinning out crossing branches in as needed in February. A must have! Compact evergreen shrub with rich green foliage and and fragrant white flowers in early spring, which provide a good source of early nectar to pollinators. Use this shrub to add structure and interest to the winter garden and as a cut flower filler. Matures at about 2-3' tall and wide. Plant in part to full sun. Does best with protection from hot afternoon sun. Plant with hellebores, hydrangeas, ferns, hostas, heucheras, and Japanese maples. Prune to thin out as needed after flowering, Photo Courtesy of Sublime Gardens

Low maintenance, deciduous, upright arching shrub. Clusters of small, fragrant, white flowers in early spring stand out against the narrow pale green foliage. The foliage and flowers make a wonderful addition to cut flower bouquets. Plant in full sun. Deer resistant and drought tolerant once established. Matures at about 5' tall and wide. Prune in late winter to early spring to remove flower remnants. Photo Courtesy of Sublime Gardens

This is one of my all time favorite spring-blooming deciduous shrubs! White flowers (that resemble a lace-cap hydrangea) bloom along the top of the branches in twos, typically in mid-May, followed by red-black fruit. Leaves turn to a deep red in fall. Branching is very horizontal and is wider than tall; about 8' x10' in my garden. Prune to thin and accentuate its horizontal branching habit as needed or after flowering in spring.
