Herbaceous perennial with edible bracts that are purplish-green and highly textured grey-green foliage. Harvest flower buds just before they open. If left unharvested, the bracts will bloom a brilliant purple. Plant in full sun and moist, well-draining soils. Cut to ground after leaves start to yellow in fall.
