5 Black Elderberry hardwood cuttings taken in March, 2025. Please note this is NOT a rooted plant.  These are cuttings that you will need to root yourself. This is easily achieved by inserting cutting into moist potting soil with the bottom node (the bottom will be cut at an angle) about 2-3″ below the soil surface. Keep cool and do not let dry out. Root development may take several months.

You can follow the same method for planting directly in the ground and keeping soil moist until they root. You should get about 80-90% success with proper planting and care.

Store cuttings in the refrigerator until you are ready to plant.

Black Elderberry is a deciduous shrub with white flowers and edible berries that attracts birds and butterflies. Berries can be used to make tinctures, syrup, etc. Prune as needed in February/March.
